What Is Your Leadership Credo?

What Is Your Leadership Credo
A few years ago, my good friend, Rene Reed, and I wrote the following leadership credo to introduce a leadership development course. Its contents are nothing new. The first point goes back over 2000 years. It’s what we’ve always thought was true and meaningful. It’s what we believed good leaders followed, and I think it still holds true today.

• Follow The Golden Rule by treating others with respect, as you would wish to be treated.

• Maintain integrity and adhere to your code of ethics.

• Commit to giving your best effort at all times.

• Embrace personal accountability, rather than looking to place blame with others.

• Show a commitment to excellence in customer service.

• Be the best teammate you can be.

• Strive for individual improvement, growth, and continuous learning.

• Rise to the challenges before you.

• Follow policies and procedures. If they do not work, improve them.

• Give expectations to others, instruct them on how to proceed, and follow-up with everyone.

• Listening is understanding. Listening is wanting to hear.

  1. If you’re unsure, ask
  2. Take notes
  3. Ask others if they understand

• Set meaningful goals and track them.

• Have fun! Laugh!

What would you add to this list? What holds true and has meaning for you?
