What’s Your Sign?

What's Your Sign?

Me, I’m a Pisces, but I’m not talking about astrology. I’m asking about your organization’s sign. You may have a combination of interior and exterior signs, and I’m sure they incorporate a logo. Hopefully, you’ve thought about what you want your sign to say about you. But, what is your sign? It’s an introduction to what your business is. It’s a first impression and, like they say, you only get one chance for a first impression. Have you ever met someone face-to-face who presented a poor image? Someone who was unkempt, wore inappropriate apparel, or they weren’t quite… clean? Pretty disappointing isn’t it? Especially if you were looking forward to meeting them and, to add injury to insult, you discovered they were a Leo. Such is life.

Your sign can leave the same type of bad first impression or worse. The unkempt person can change clothes, brush their hair and shave – your sign can’t. If it wasn’t designed to make a good first impression, it can only be replaced. So, how does a sign make a good first impression?

Design – Simple is almost always more effective. Getting to the point is important, not getting lost trying to find it.

TypographyVisual communication, including font style, size, and color all impact the appeal.

Location – It won’t do much good if it can’t be seen.

Materials – An outdoor aluminum cabinet message center is obviously more durable than a coroplast sign. Be sure the material matches the purpose.

Installation – Regardless of interior or exterior use, improper installation can defeat the entire purpose. Further, if it’s not installed with local ordinances adhered to, you may have to scrap it and reinstall your sign with proper permitting and compliance to local laws.

Hopefully, your sign makes a great first impression. It invites people to visit you, informs them about you, and directs them to you. If not, you may consider rebranding. There could be a point where losing potential customers from a poor first impression costs more than changing the impression with new signage. If we can be of any service, contact us.

Now back to the important stuff. Today’s Pisces horoscope is, “Control your duel personalities to present one united front and make a good first impression.”
